Life in Limerick
Being a baby was quite effortlessly easy
You were tolerated and allowed to be noisy
You really had all the fun
Keeping your attenders on the run
Who rushed to pamper when you were queasy.
Childhood introduced you to the world outside
Opening not only your eyes but mind also wide
Getting to know all the things around
On, above, or under the ground
Preparing you gradually for a better ride.
Youth saw you active but never timid or edgy
This was your prime time to build up energy
To be stubborn like a boulder
To carry weight on your shoulder
Into a future not that far but that looked fudgy.
Adulthood greeted and treated you almost fair
Depending on your unique preferences and flair
Business, profession, politics or art
Fortune played an important part
With your partner, you really made a good pair.
From being a child then to now bearing one
In the first life cycle, you have comfortably won
Parenthood was not by choice
But it gave reasons to rejoice
For the next cycle, however, you needed to run.
Family man as now you are generally known
Have tons of load to bear all on your own
Battling moments of anxiety
You carved a name in the society
To proudly build a reputation of your own
The children you guarded in your shelter
Guiding them should they ever falter
Are now eager to fly out
To prove themselves without doubt
A genuine wish that you have to factor
When your grown kids get a couple of theirs
Your elevation is more than that of others
Grandparent is a title that gives
Tremendous joy to affectionate lives
Securing a family that is tied to its tethers.
Children are but a beautiful reminder by life
How our parents raised us away from strife
Parents are but a treasure
Guiding us in good measure
Particularly when life is like walking on a knife.
