புதிய பறவை

 

புதிதாய் வந்த இளங்குயிலே உன்

வரவில் மிகவும் மகிழ்கிறேன்.

சிட்டாய் விரையும் நீ பறவைதானா அல்லது

காற்றில் கரையும் குரலமுதா?

பரந்த வெளியில் நான் கிடக்கையிலே

இரண்டாய் உன் குரல் ஒலிக்கிறதே!

பெரிதும் சிறிதுமான மலைகளுக்கிடையில்

அருகிலும் தொலைவிலுமாய்க் கேட்கிறதே!

ஆதவனொளியிலும் ஆயிரம் மலரிலும்

ஆர்ப்பரித்து உலாவும் உன் ஆரவாரம்

இதயத்துள் கிளறும் எண்ணங்களை

சேர்த்தே காட்சியாய்ப் பொழிகிறதே!

வசந்தத்தின் வரவே வருகவருகவே

இசைக்குயில் நீயென நானறிந்தும்

கண்ணுக்குத் தென்படா கனிமதுரமே

விண்ணின் புதிராய் விளங்குகிறாயே!

சிறுபிராயத்துச் சீரிய நட்பே

உரு(க்)கும் உன்குரல் பரிச்சயமே.

தொடர முயல்கிறேன் ஆனவழிகளில்

புதரிலும் மரத்திலும் வானகத்திலுமே.

அலைகிறேன் காட்டில் உன்னைத் தேடியே

மலையிடைப் பெரும் புல்வெளியிலுமே.

ஏக்கமும் நம்பிக்கையும் உளதேயாயினும்

காக்க வைக்கிறாய் காட்சி தராமலே!

இன்றும் தரையில் உணர்கிறேனே

உன்னமுதக் குரலைக் கேட்கிறேனே

விந்தையாக உன்குரல் கேட்டபோதிலே

அந்த பொன்நாட்களுமே வந்திடுதே!

ஓ மாயக்குயிலே! நீ மட்டுமிருந்தால்

உலகே வண்ணமாய் மாறுகிறதே!

என்னை மயக்கும் இக்கனவுலகம்

உண்மையில் உனக்கு உரித்தானதே!

Still longed for, never seen.

And I can listen to thee yet;

Can lie upon the plain

And listen, till I do beget

That golden time again.

O blessèd Bird! the earth we pace

Again appears to be

An unsubstantial, faery place;

That is fit home for Thee!
